Growing up in rural Skagit Valley I developed a deep appreciation of the land and nature. After 22 years writing for a corporation I am back in the country, making my home in the haunting woods of Whidbey Island with my pretty (and smart) wife Sue, big dog Rocky, and scores of woodpeckers and owls.

I’m a journalist who started with community newspapers – the Skagit Valley Herald and Mountain Home (Idaho) News – before going to Fishing & Hunting News, the nation’s largest outdoor weekly. For 22 years I managed publications for Safeco, an insurance and financial services corporation, where I was responsible for a national marketing magazine, consumer newsletter and 20 consecutive corporate annual reports. After all those years in a cubicle I was aching to be free. And wouldn’t you know, I still love rural life and community journalism. Today I am communications manager of Island County Marine Resources Committee and a freelance writer who works widely in Island County. This is heaven.
